Echo's Babies

Echo had a litter of 11 pups born July 11th 2010. All pups are alive even the runt is pulling through so far. Echo doesn't seem to be producing as much milk as I'd like to see. But I'm hoping once she acclimates to having babies that she'll step it up that notch. She's going through the right acts feeding them, cleaning them and what not. Also on another note I wish I had pictures of the babies for everyone, but my digital camera charger is missing so I'm unable right now until I order a new charger and it arrives to get any current pictures. I am so sorry. I'm dieing to show everyone her babies!!
Echo's Pregnancy Weight Chart

Atlas X Echo were paired July 2nd 2010. Possible due date between July 23rd and 25th. We will weigh her as frequently as possible, most likely daily. We will post up her weight results throughout her pregnancy. It's fun to be able to watch her pregnancy progress daily and it's even more wonderful to be able to share it with everyone especially potential adopters.

Atlas X Echo

Time sure flies. It's been awhile since I've added an entry. We haven't had any breedings here lately. But we have just paired Atlas X Echo this evening. We are extremely excited for this breeding and have been waiting a long time for it to finally happen. We will be starting a weight chart for Echo very soon.
Breeding Changes

We still have 2 females and 6 males left from Oliver X Leilani litter that are looking for their forever homes. We won't be doing any other breedings until they've found homes. We've changed our breeding plans slightly. We've bumped back 2 of our breedings and have added a breeding that will give us Dwarf rats here at Sweet Whispers. This breeding will take place once all of Leilani's pups have been homed. For more information on this breeding please check out our Planned Litters page or contact me via email.
Available Babies

We have 4 females and 4 males available to pet only homes. The females are 2 Red Eye Siamese Dumbos from Leilani's litter, an Agouti Berkshire Headspot Dumbo from Lychee's litter and a Black Eyed White Dumbo from Sweets' litter. Our males are from Leilani's litter. There are 4 Black Eyed Siamese Standard ears. All are ready to go to new loving forever homes. If anyone is interested please fill out and send in an adoption application. We can then go from there to see if we can get you some babies that will fit right into your family.

Yes everyone has finally started picking their babies. There is 1 male left available in Sweets' litter, a BEW Dumbo. There is 1 female left available in Lychee's litter, a Black Berk Rex Dumbo and finally in Leilani's litter there are 2 RES females available and 8 BES males. There are 2-3 Dumbos left in that litter and the rest are standard ears. Hoping to get these babies homed soon. Anyone looking for males or anyone know anyone please send them our way we have wonderful babies here for adoption. Sweet, healthy and well socialized. If you're interested fill out an application and send it in via email. I will do my best to return your email promptly and we will go from there.
Picking Time

Yes everyone it is finally that time. I have a little note for everyone that I hope you all read. We are very tight on females. There are only 8 females in Sweets' litter. So I'm hoping that some of you will be willing to choose one from her litter and also consider a pup from a different litter. Leilani and Lychee will have 3 female pups available each. I will be emailing you in the order in which I received your deposits. Again please take into account that we are cutting it close with females, but we will have enough. If you are last pick and the females that are left you are not happy with I can move your deposit onto my next litter or another litter. If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me.
Haven't Made An Entry Lately

Sorry I haven't updated lately. I have been very busy. Some sad news. We lost the runt from Lychee's litter. She was a light black eyed girl with a blaze. Probably would have been my keeper too. The rest of her litter seems to be thriving as well as Leilani's pups. I'm starting to see creme pigmentation in the mese pups which is awesome. Sweets' pups are absolutely amazing they are turning out above my expectations.

Everyone is doing good and hanging in there thus far. Sweets' babies are getting so big I can't believe their already 11 days old today they'll be opening their eyes in about 3-5 days. How fast they grow. Leilani is doing great all of her pups have made it through the stressful ordeal of her fostering another mommas litter. Though we have lost a little more than half of Lychee's litter. She only has 6 surviving pups as of last night. I will do another count when I take pictures like I do daily to make sure I know how everyone is doing and to share with everyone watching their babies grow. I bet everyone is excited to be able to pick their pups. If you are getting from Sweets' litter and another you can pick one of Sweets' pups when the time is ready, but the other 2 litters are 5 and 6 days behind so they will take a little longer for you to pick out your 2nd pup. I do hope that everyone considers you're more than welcome to get one of Sweets' pups and pick your 2nd from another litter. You're not restricted to just picking from one litter. Plus I would give it an extra week until Leilani and Lychee's pups are moving around as well you can see how adorable they are going to be as well. I'm uber excited to see how Leilani's litter grows as her litter will be the beg. of our BES line. A big thanks to Blue Skies Rattery for letting us here at Sweet Whispers have Leilani. She's just the sweetest and an absolute wonderful rattie momma.
Depressed

Well Leilani wasn't feeding the babies so I took the opportunity to snap a quick photo or two of the litter. I found another dead pup. So far we've lost 5 pups it's extremely sad and depressing. I know she's doing her very best and we're making sure she's getting all the extra protein and care she needs to take care of her pups. Maybe the litter is just too big for her to handle with the foster babies. It extremely depresses me wishing there was something I could of done or could be doing better :(
Life Is Full Of Surprises

Well isn't life of surprises. I was only expecting Black Marked in Sweets' litter. Well turns out we have just a few Russian Blue marked pups mixed in there as well. What a welcome surprise. Sweets and pups are doing amazing as you can see by their daily updated pictures.
Leilani is doing good with her litter and her foster pups though we lost another of Lychee's pups yesterday. As each day goes by the chances increase that they'll survive so each day that passes we say a little prayer for Leilani and her pups. This is why I haven't taken any pictures yet. I don't want to disturb her very much right now. I will start posting pictures within a few days. And remember the pictures will be under Leilani's litter page, but they will include some of Lychee's pups that she is fostering.
Bit Of Bad News

Lychee just didn't take to being a momma. She only cleaned half her litter off and they were scattered all over her maternity cage. I gave her as long as I could, but the babies started getting cold and not being fed. I split them up between Leilani and Sweets. But with Sweets having older pups fighting for food we lost 4 so far. So right now everything is riding on our precious Leilani. She has a lot of mouths to feed and is doing her absolute best with keeping everyone fed. Everyone is nice 'n pink with milk bellies. So please say a little prayer for our Leilani that she does the best job she possibly can with raising her own litter and half of another litter. We're hoping for the best outcome. We will be able to tell within another 1-2wks. which babies are hers and which of Lychees survived after they get their fur in. I will keep everyone updated on how Leilani is doing.
On a better note Sweets' pups are doing fantastic getting their fur in. Can't believe their a week old already. We have 6 BEW pups and 8 marked pups. Their getting so big and in another week they'll be starting to open their ears and eyes. Becoming more mobile. That's when the fun begins :)
Lychee Had Her Babies

Lychee finally had her babies this morning. I was surprised she waiting till the very end of gestation period because she was huge. She is a first time mom so we're hoping she gets in momma mode. I didn't bother her much so don't have a rough estimate on how many I just peaked in. She was still birthing and had some scattered, but was cleaning some of them off as she went. So here's fingers crossed to Lychee being a good momma like Leilani and Sweets.

Well it looks like Leilani is done having her babies. I snuck up she's cleaning them all off like a very good momma. I tried to get a rough count but it's hard with her on some of them lol I got a rough estimate of 10 mese pups. YAY!!

I swore Lychee would go first, but our Leilani fooled us. I went up to our bedroom about 15mins. ago and she was in the middle of giving birth. From what I could see there were 3-4 at that point. She was still big so there should be a few more. I will keep everyone updated on how Leilani and her new babies are doing. Also when Lychee decides to have her babies as well.
Update On Lychee and Leilani

Today is both girls 22nd day of their gestation period. Rats normal gestation period is between 20-23 days. Lychee has been uncomfortable all day long I thought she would of went into labor already. I'm taking a guess saying she'll have them before midnight, could be wrong though. Leilani seems as relaxed as ever. This is her 2nd litter so I'm sure she'll breeze right through it. Lychee is a bit more tense. I will post up when either of the girls goes into labor. I'm checking on them roughly every hr. to make sure all is well. Keep checking back for updates.
Doing Great

Everyone is doing wonderful. Sweets is a great mom to her pups. She ended up having 14 if you haven't checked out her page on the Current Litters page. Of course I can not wait for their pigment and fuzz to come in to see what markings we have lol Lychee and Leilani are still gaining weight. They should be due March 31st. We'll see who has their litter first. Hopefully not big litters. Well that's about the most exciting for today other than new baby pictures and I'll have a short video of them up soon.
Sweets Had Her Babies

Sweets went into labor very early this afternoon and by mid afternoon has had a beautiful litter. I don't have a count yet on how many or sexes. Will try to get that for everyone later. She's doing a great job with her pups. Right now she's snoozing while their feeding. Everyone I can see has a nice big milk band which is excellent. I will update everyone later tonight or tomorrow on how and her litter are doing.
The Girl's Weight Gain

Well as of today all 3 girls are gaining weight as you can see from their charts. Lychee isn't quite as consistent as Leilani and Sweets, but is still gaining. I am hoping only 2 of the girls would be pregnant. This was accidental as we thought Sweets did not take she kept loosing instead of gaining weight. So we paired Lychee as to have 2 litters. We were shocked when Sweets all of a sudden started gaining weight like crazy. Sweets is due this weekend of the 26th. This will be the first and only time there are 3 litters at once here at Sweet Whispers. We like to do one litter at a time. Even 2 litters at at time will be an absolute max for us. We'll only most likely do that if one is a first time mom. As we like to give all the babies maximum attention. This time around we'll just have to go ahead and make that time no matter what it takes. It'll be worth the time and effort.

Today we are starting to weigh Leilani everyday to every other day like Sweets and Lychee. We should be able to tell within a week if she's pregnant. I don't have her pre pregnancy weight so we'll have to go by what we have and just wait and see if she gains over the next week or so. Fingers are crossed!!

Yet again another busy day...

Today we attended the Reading Pet Expo. We had a very eventful day here at Sweet Whispers. Our BES doe, Leilani has come home with us. She's doing fantastic couldn't ask for a calmer more relaxed girl. Rush also is home with us. He is just such a lil lover boy and oh so very into everything I'm doing even when I walk past the cage. Just love it. And finally Rayne. She's a lil cutie pie and settling in quite nice. We also picked up a new member of the rattery, Handsome. He is a gorgeous Siamese mouse (will post him up soon).
On another note I will start to weigh the girls again starting tomorrow as today was such a hectic day. Hopefully Leilani's pregnancy took. Fingers crossed everyone!!
Update on Lychee

After watching Lychee's weight the past 2 days I'm unsure if she is pregnant. If this is the case she will be bred again around April/May. If she is pregnant then there are no worries just ignore this blog entry. If anyone was waiting for pups from this litter and have any questions don't hesitate to email me. Sweets is definitely pregnant and Leilani should be pregnant as well.

I've decided I will keep a chart of Sweets' daily weights for everyone since we now found out she is indeed pregnant. Each day I weigh her I will just add to this chart. I think it'll be easier for everyone to see her weight gain throughout her pregnancy day by day.
Also pups will be ready by Rodent Fest. So you will have the choice to pick them up somewhere off grounds. You must be pre-approved before to take them home. Hectic Day

Today was pure crazy. My daughter is sick. Her temp. and all was under control so I went out with a friend for a few drinks and left her with my husband. He called with updates nothing big. All of a sudden I get a call her temperature shot up to 104 degrees Fahrenheit. I was freakin and told him to call her pediatrician. He did so & they said give her Motrin closer and put her in the tub also keep cooler clothes on her. UGH I'm so mad my poor baby. So gonna keep a close watch on her tonight every 2-3 hrs. get up to check her temp. We are gonna piggyback Motrin and Tylenol tonight see how she is and she'll get her antibiotics tomorrow. Doc. said double ear infection and viral infection. So that pretty much sums up my day today and tonight lol
On a side note yesterday morning Lychee weighed in at 382 grams. So she's gaining good so far. I will update everyday with her weight for everyone to follow her progress.
Breeding Update

I have tried breeding Sweets twice now with no resulting pregnancy. I'm unsure if she reabsorbed them or if she is sterile. I will try breeding her again in another 1-2 months. I have decided I will be doing 2 breeding's in March, Oliver X Leilani and Atlas X Lychee. I bumped my Atlas X Lychee breeding up. Both were bred 3/09/2010. If you are interested in either breeding's please fill out an application and send via email.
Today Lychee's weight was at 365 grams. We will be weighing her daily.
